Geese in the Park

I chased some Canadian geese around the City Park Golf Course this afternoon after doing a shoot for Mediamax. It's slow for Blue House Photography around the holidays.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Fun with Photoshop

It's been pretty cold here in Denver lately. I think 8 was the high today. Now, I'm all for layering and braving the cold, but I took the dogs to the park today for about 20 minutes and I thought my fingers were going to fall off. Suffice it to say, I've been hanging out around the house the past few days catching up on some work.
I went camping and climbing this summer with some friends down at Shelf Road, outside of Canon City and have been meaning to go through them for a while now.
I love playing with photos and tweaking the colors, contrast, dodging and burning, etc. My love of photography began in the dark room doing just those type of artistic touches. Now it's in Photoshop--what I call my digital darkroom. Here's a few versions of the same photo...just playing around.
Hope you enjoy!

Happy Veterans Day

Blue House Photography wanted to recognize the Veterans today, especially in light of the tragedy at Ft. Hood last week. We remember and thank all those who served including those in our family. Our grandfather served during World War II. Our uncle served in Korea. Another uncle served in Vietnam. And our father served in ROTC during the war in Vietnam. Thank you. You’re in our thoughts today. Here are some appropriate images from the past few years.

Hotel Boulderado Wedding show

Blue House Photography did the Hotel Boulderado wedding show in Boulder today. Delia and I met scores of potential brides and were able to network with other wedding vendors. It was the first time we took part in the Hotel Boulderado wedding show and we both think it went pretty well. It was also the first time that we used our new display that we worked over the summer with VIP Exhibits to produce. Our display, made of aluminum, has a sleek, modern design that allows for interchangeable photos and ease of use. It really looks cool and thanks to VIP for working with us to develop such a great display. We look forward to using for years down the road. Next up: This Saturday we head to Al’s Formal Wear for one of their vendor nights.

Okay, don't judge the quality of the photos (please!) I just snapped a few photos of the display with my point and shoot. You get the idea, I hope.

Snow Day!

We're in the middle of our first winter storm in Colorado with a prediction of 20-30 inches of snow by tomorrow evening so Blue House Photography took the day off. There are probably already 12 inches of snow on the ground and it's snowed all day. So naturally, with this post, I wanted to think warm. So in that theme I'm posting photos from the warmest I was all year: an August trip to Utah to visit Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The daytime temperature was in the high 90's and the shade was minimal. I was only there for a long weekend and unfortunately could only spend one day in each park. But I happened to snap a few good ones. Hope you enjoy the photos!

The first two photos are from the Devil's Garden section of Arches where I did a morning hike. The second two are of Delicate Arch. It's a widely recognized arch. It's the arch that Utah picked as it's state symbol.

The first photo is from the Island in the Sky area of Canyonlands National Park. The arch is Mesa Arch and the last two photos were from an evening hike to Murphy's Point.

Megan and Philip's Wedding

Luke and I photographed our last wedding of the season last Saturday. Megan and Philip are the cutest couple. She was so laid back all day and Philip and the guys spent a good hour before the ceremony chilling out and playing hackey sack. Their wedding was at the 3 Trees Chapel in Littleton. The chapel had some great dramatic light which made for some cool photos of the ceremony and a couple portraits after also. Enjoy!

New York

Matt and I went to New York a couple of weeks ago for a friend's wedding. This was my fifth trip to New York and I love the city. I kind of had to drag Matt along; he's much more of a country boy, but I think he enjoyed it. We spent one day wandering around the city and taking everything in. Here's a few fun photos I got. Enjoy!

Debbie and Easan's Wedding

Luke and I photographed Debbie and Easan's wedding in Winter Park over Labor Day. We usually like to meet with the couple before the wedding to go over the time line for the day and just try to make sure that everything is in order and is going to run smoothly. Debbie sent us a list of photos and time line ahead of time and was so organized that this was totally unnecessary (--a weddings photographer's dream: an organized bride!). The ceremony was held at Snow Mountain Ranch at the YMCA of the Rockies. It was an absolutely gorgeous location and the time of day was just right to get great light for the photos. Hope you enjoy!
