Snow Day!

Luke and I photograph a lot of real estate and architectural photography for Obeo Virtual Tours. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, Denver is a great place to do this. Most days are picture perfect and it's usually pretty easy to schedule appointments year round. But, when the sun isn't shining, no one wants any photos.

So, when I woke up today to find it snowing with no sign of letting up, I figured it was only a matter of time before my phone started ringing with cancellations.

Not surprisingly that is just what happened and I got to hang out at home today with the dogs. Here's a couple of quick shots of us playing in the back yard.

Why Blue House?

When Delia and I meet with new clients they often ask why we decided on Blue House Photography as a name. Other than it being original, easy to remember and at the beginning of the alphabet the name Blue House Photography is also significant to us personally. My sister Delia and I grew up in a blue house.

So when we were forming the company in the summer of 2005 we were trying to come up with an original name. Having moved to Denver to be closer to the mountains we thought about Mile High, Rocky Mountain and other names Colorado-like but those sounded to generic to us. We tried doing things with our initials but that just didn't seem to make sense either.

We ran out of name ideas and were leaning towards using our last name when our friend Robyn suggested another name: Blue House Photography. We took the idea and ran with it- now almost four years strong. Thanks Robyn!

Photo of the Day: March 23, 2009

It's cold and overcast in Denver today after being 70 degrees and sunny yesterday so this shot reminds me of the nice weather we had yesterday. This is a shot I (Luke) took in Panama. It's also an example of another kind of work Blue House Photography can do. In addition to photographing weddings, portraits and architectural photography we do a variety of fine art, scenic and travel photography. We hope to have a gallery or two on the new web page to showcase this work soon. Check back for updates!

The Golden Hotel

I've been compiling a list of favorite venues for weddings. One of our the most picturesque by far is the Golden Hotel. It's right on Clear Creek so it's kind of a no-brainer for photos. They have a great outdoor flagstone patio and the staff is really accommodating too.
We photographed Karen and Dan's wedding there this past October. Enjoy!

Photo of the week

This is one of Delia's shots from Jeni and Casey's wedding back in August. Jeni was a good sport and liked to do some fun stuff when it came to the portraits. It shows in this shot. These are the type of portraits shots we like to shoot. We like the to think outside the box and be creative and try to come up with a shot people aren't expecting.

Vendor Night at Al's

Luke and I had our second vendor night at Al's Formal Wear in Westminster on Saturday.
This is a recurring event that we are going to try and do every 3 months.  We always have a good time talking to prospective brides and grooms.
Plus, Beth at VanGo Florist usually gives us some of her flowers to take home.  Check out the latest.  She used a blooming artichoke. How cool!
